Faceless YouTube Channel: Is It Worth It?

Posted by

We all know that there is a ton of money to be made on YouTube. We have all seen the videos of Mr. Beast giving away an exorbitant amount of money. If you are anything like me you must be thinking, how much money do these videos make to be able to give away a private island or a Lamborghini filled with cash. The answer is ALOT. The good news is that you don’t need to be Mr. Beast or PewDiePie to make money on Youtube. You actually don’t even need to show your face. Sounds too good to be true? The truth is you can absolutely make money with a faceless Youtube channel but it does come with some challenges. Let’s take a look at the process.

Why Start a Faceless YouTube Channel?

Isn’t it obvious? Because you don’t want people to see your face obviously. If you are like me and have a face built for radio only then a faceless YouTube channel is a great option. Even though your grandmother is convinced you could be a model it is extremely difficult to get people to tune into a 10 min video of you vlogging just for your pretty eyes. One benefit of a faceless youtube channel is that you are forced to come up with interesting and engaging video topics. Not showing your face also allows you to be a little more risqué 😉

Should You Make The Videos Yourself?

This is a big one. There are a lot of YouTube automation programs out there promising the world with little to no work put in. They take advantage of outsourcing video editing, voice over work, and script writing to save you time. The truth is you will have to put in a lot of time and effort regardless if you outsource the work or not. In the first part of this article I am going to focus on how to make videos yourself. We will explore which categories are proven to be successful and some programs that help you create videos. Later on we will discuss the advantages of outsourcing the video making process.

What Styles Work for Faceless YouTube Channels?

Selecting your content style is the first important step. Faceless channels tend to do really well with a few popular formats:

Animation and Motion Graphics: Perfect for stories and tutorials. You don’t need to be an expert animator or graphic designer. Here are some tools that help a lot with making these type of videos:

Adobe After Effects

Toon Boom Harmony

OpenToonz

Krita

Blender

Top 10s and List Videos: This is a great category if you want to keep your channel open to a variety of topics and not back yourself into a specific niche. If you are planning on making top 10 list type videos you will need some video editing software. Here are some free ones available online:

DaVinci Resolve

Clipchamp

Hitfilm

Storytelling: Making a story telling channel is as easy as it gets. It can be as simple as looking up stories on reddit, recording yourself reading the stories and putting the voiceover overlayed onto stock images or animations. You will need a good microphone. It’s 2025, people do not put up with bad quality audio. Here are some microphones that youtubers love:

Shure MV7

Audio-Technica AT2020

Electro-Voice RE20

Subscriptions You Will Need

If you are planning on making your own videos you most likely will need to subscribe to a few databases to obtain copyright free music, animations and stock images. We suggest the following:

Outsourcing Your Videos

If you don’t want to put the time and effort into learning how to edit videos or record voice overs then you can consider outsourcing this work to other professionals. WARNING: This can get expensive. Unlike YouTube automation programs that sell you on the idea of getting a top quality video created for you for a very low cost ($5-$10) I am here to tell you the truth. When you calculate the cost of a scriptwriter, thumbnail designer, voiceover artist and video editor the price per video can easily exceed $100 / per video. I must warn you it is very important to get a quality video produced. To grab someone’s attention in this day and age the video must be top quality. It is difficult to find script writers that create engaging material and a video editor to present it in an appealing way. Not to mention finding a voiceover artist that fits your channel theme and intrigues viewers to stay and watch a whole video. Below are some sites where you can hire freelancer’s to write scripts, design thumbnails, edit videos and do voiceover work:

Fiverr

Upwork

Freelancer

YT Jobs

Next Steps and When Do You Start Making Money

Once you have an engaging and interesting video made you will need to open a YouTube account and post the video. It is important to remember the following:

  • Your channel can not be monetized until you reach 1000 subscribers and 4000 public watch hours.
  • It is important to post on a frequent basis. This helps maximize the chances of YouTube recommending your video.
  • Engaging thumbnails are very important to have people click on your videos.
  • YouTube’s algorithm is forever changing, if you find success on one type of video lean into it and create more videos in the same niche.
  • Manage your expectations. It takes time to build a following. Remember to be consistent.

Consider Starting a YouTube channel Where You Show Your Face

With the exponential growth of faceless YouTube channels, Google’s algorithm is starting to favor channels where creators show their face. If trends mean anything it seems that making a channel where you show your face helps build a better sense of credibility, community and trust. This is something to consider if you are deciding to start a YouTube Channel. Remember the Internet is undefeated, as long as you make good content the views will come. Good Luck!
